Pappu Charu


                    Hello... Today I am going to prepare the dish in the pattern  prepared by my Mom and which  I like  the most. This dish we called as Pappu charu and this is some what similar to Sambar of Andhra Pradesh. It is not completely called as Sambar but in some portions it is refereed as Sambar.  Instead of adding more and more masala's here I am preparing this in mild version and it tastes awesome. Here I have used little amount of ready-made Sambar powder which is easily available in market named after different brands and it can be optional.... So,  Let's get in to the process...


                         



Ingredients:

  • Red Gram (Dal) - 1 cup
  • Tamarind juice - 2 to 3 cups
  • Tomato - 1
  • Drum Stick - 1
  • Onions (small sized) - 8 
  • Water - approximately 1 liter 
  • Oil - 3 spoons
  • Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tea spoon
  • Urad Dal - 1/4 tea spoon
  • Cumin Seeds - 1/2 tea spoon
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tea spoon
  • Hing - 2 pinches
  • Dried Red chili's - 2
  • Green chili's - 2
  • Ginger - 1/2 inch
  • Garlic - 5 to 6 cloves
  • Jaggery or Sugar - 3 spoons
  • Curry leaves - 2 leaf lets
  • Coriander - 3 spoons finely chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • Chili powder - to taste
  • Sambar Masala - 1 spoon
Procedure:

STEP 1:

                     First, we should prepare Tamarind juice by means of Tamarind. Take some quantity of Tamarind and soak it in water for 15 minutes and then extract the juice from it and put it a side. And boil 1 cup of Red Gram and mash it in to fine paste.

STEP 2:

                 Now, we will get in to the process. To make this dish, take a deep pan and add  Oil to it. To this add Mustard Seeds, Urad Dal and  pieces of Dried red chili's. When Mustard seeds crackle, add Cumin Seeds and the add pinch of Hing and Turmeric Powder and later add Curry leaves and  Sliced green chili's and let them fry.

STEP 3:

                     This is the time to add Tamarind juice to this seasoning. And also add enough amount of water according to your taste and preferences. To this add tomato slices, little bit of  Jaggery or Sugar and Salt, chili powder to taste, 1 spoon of Sambar powder which is easily available in market.

STEP 4:

                    To this, add Ginger Garlic paste or mashed Garlic and Ginger which gives awesome aroma to our dish. And also add Onions which are of small in size. Just peel them and add without cutting them in to slices, pieces of drumstick are also added here it self and  let it boil for some time about 20 minutes.

STEP 4:

                      After the completion of the time . To this add boiled and mashed Red Gram dal  and let it boil for 10 more minutes.

STEP 5:

                   Finally, off the flame and add coriander leaves and serve it with Rice.
